Frequently Asked Questions

General Club Information

  • What are the Club's hours of operation?

The Clubs are open from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday. We are not open on the weekends, however in certain circumstances, we may be open for scheduled field trips or Club events.

  • Is Boys & Girls Club allowed to administer medication to members?

Yes, however, medication must be in the bottle with the exact prescription from their doctor. Medication your child needs must be in the Member Tracking System  (MTS), which will be filled out upon enrolling. Click here to view the Medication Policy Form.

  • Do we accommodate children with special needs?

Yes, we do accommodate children with special needs, however, it depends on severity of need. We unfortunately do not have the capacity to give one-on-one instruction which can include: diapers needing to be changed, having to be potty trained, etc.

  • Can children bring electronics to the Club?

Yes, but it is not the Club's responsibility to keep up with member's electronics or for any lost or stolen items. There will be time after activities are complete when members can use their electronics, but we do not allow members being on social media while at the Club.

  • Is there a dress code for shoes?

Shoes must be closed toed. Heels may not be out. Contact your Unit Director for additional questions. For members playing sports or participating in physical fitness activities, open toed or open heeled shoes can cause safety issues.

Parent Handbook

View or download the Parent Handbook here.

Please review the parent handbook in its entirety before enrolling your child(ren) in the program!

Registration Information

  • Do we have to complete the orientation before our child can start?

Yes, there will be several opportunities to attend orientations with an in-person or virtual option. See your Unit Director for an orientation schedule.

  • Why do we have to register on Parent Portal and still complete paperwork before our child can start?

If our computers are down for any reason, the paperwork will give us access to all important information such as: medication form, field trip calendar, lunch calendar, and member information. Parent portal allows us to house member information in a database.

  • Why do we have to sign up for Remind?

Remind is required because this is the main line of communication should any emergencies or announcements need to be made regarding the Club or your child.

Please contact your Unit Director for the code to the Remind group, or view it in the parent handbook!

  • What paperwork is required?

A 121 Form (shot record) and birth certificate is required to attend the Club.

Payment Information

  • Does Boys & Girls Club provide payment assistance?

Scholarships are available; however, you must apply with MDHS (Mississippi Department of Human Services) and receive a denial letter.

    Website: https://www.mdhs.ms.gov/

    Phone Number: (601) 359-4500

If you are denied, scholarships are provided on need bases. See your Unit Director with the denial letter and ask for scholarship application.

  • Do you give refunds?

No, we do not give refunds.

  • How much does the afterschool program cost?

The afterschool program at the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Gulf Coast is $60/month plus an additional $15/month transportation fee, if applicable. This does not include the non-refundable, one-time $25 registration fee.

Program Information

  • What is the ESA program?

Elements of a Scholar Athlete (ESA) Academy aims to get more young people, on more teams, for more playing time, while fostering a sense of belonging, and building life skills and self-confidence in each youth.

This is a developmental league focused on developing the skills, mindset, character traits and resilience it takes to be a scholar athlete. ESA Academy helps youth to learn the balance between sportsmanship and competition. All Clubs have members who participate in the ESA Program!

During summer, basketball and track & field will be the sports we focus on. Fees are $10 for members, and $20 for non-members. You can register at bgcgulfcoast.org/ESA.

  • What is Torch Club?

Torch Club is a character & leadership program that is a chartered small-group leadership and service clubs for boys and girls ages 10-13.

Torch Club members learn to elect officers and work together to implement activities in four areas: service to Club and community, education, health and fitness and social recreation.

Members in Torch Club help raise funds selling concessions at the Club for field trips, community service projects, and for rewards.

Occasionally, your child may ask for money for Torch Club. This just means they need a few dollars to purchase concessions/snacks.

  • What is Full Day Camp?

Full Day Camp are held when school is out for holidays such as Spring Break, Thanksgiving, and Winter Break. For Club members there are no additional fees. For non-Club members, there is a $10 fee a day.

  • What holidays are the Clubs closed?

We will send out via Remind and on our Facebook page the exact days we will be closed due to holidays - Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, MLK Day, Mardi Gras, and Memorial Day.

We aim to give at least a two week notice. Sign up for Remind or follow us on Facebook to stay up to date!

  • Do you pick up from schools when the children are released early?

Yes! We have communication with each of our schools and typically know ahead of time when schools are closing early to pick up the members to bring to the Club.

  • Is there a Pre-K Program?

Unfortunately, we will not be continuing our Pre-K program this year. We still accept 4-5 year olds during afterschool hours (2PM-6PM), but we will no longer be open at 6 AM for Pre-K.
