Academics Overview

At Boys & Girls Clubs of the Gulf Coast, we know the key to success starts with a solid education. We show our kids and teens that with focused approach and hard work, they can reach their goals in school and beyond. Every day at the Club, our skilled and caring staff provide the guidance and encouragement that young people need to receive excellent grades every year and graduate from high school with a plan for the future. 100% of our members graduate on time and have a post-secondary plan. We have various programs geared towards every age group to help them have a  successful, great future and beyond.

Project Learn

Project Learn reinforces and enhances the skills and knowledge young people learn at school during the hours they spend at the Club. This comprehensive program strategy is based on Dr. Reginald Clark's research showing that students do much better in school when they spend their non-school hours engaged in fun, but academically beneficial, activities. Through Project Learn, Club staff use all the areas and programs in the Club to create opportunities for these high-yield learning activities, which include leisure reading, writing activities, discussions with knowledgeable adults, helping others, homework help and tutoring and games like Scrabble that develop young people's cognitive skills.

Summer Brain Gain

Summer learning loss has a devastating effect on America's kids, especially those who don't participate in enriching summer activities. That's why Boys & Girls Clubs of America is pleased to share Summer Brain Gain – a fun, interactive learning program designed for summer in the Club! Summer Brain Gain (SBG) is a hands-on, minds-on, project-based program designed for summer in the Club. It's comprised of week-long modules consisting of fun, themed activities for elementary, middle, and high school students. Activities encourage youth to fall in love with learning by engaging them in unique educational experiences that spark curiosity, allow them to explore their interests, and create opportunities.

Work-Based Learning (WBL)

Work-based learning (WBL) - formerly referred to as Junior Staff - experiences are structured, educational job-readiness programs that occur in the workplace. They create safe spaces to learn about the world of work while youth develop their employability skills through first-hand application. Teens will develop interpersonal skills, a strong work ethic, and a sense of community engagement while experiencing on-the-job Club work. Work-based learning remains an integral part of the Club teen experience and workforce readiness programming.
