Our Impact

At Boys & Girls Clubs of the Gulf Coast, we do whatever it takes to ensure our members have everything they need to succeed. Over the years, statistics have shown that our Club members stay in school and graduate on time, as well as gain confidence and skills needed for their futures. Along with career and leadership, they become active with sports, learn new things such as music and art, and choose healthy lifestyles.

The Need for:

academic success

11.1% of young people in Mississippi fail to graduate from high school on time. 69% of 4th graders are not proficient in reading. 82% of 8th graders are not proficient in math.


What we do & Our impact

The goal of our Academic Success initiative is to foster academic success through homework help and special initiatives such as S.T.E.A.M., literacy programs, and the Arts. Among our teen age Club members, 100% graduate from high school, and 100% expect to complete some kind of post-secondary education. Our members have a cumulative 3.0 GPA.


THE NEED FOR:

good character & leadership

23% of high-school youth in the United States were involved in a physical fight in the past year.


WHAT WE DO & OUR IMPACT

The goal of our Good Character & Citizenship initiative is to teach leadership skills, unity, and to foster an understanding of giving back to the community through a line of service. 86% of Club teen members volunteer in their community at least once a year.


THE NEED FOR:

healthy lifestyles

41.4% of young people ages 6-18 in Mississippi are over-weight or obese.


WHAT WE DO & OUR IMPACT

The goal of our Healthy Lifestyle initiative is to promote healthy life-changing habits among our Club members, as well as offer sports leagues in an effort to promote physical activity. 91% of Club members get at least 30 minutes or more of physical activity on five or more days per week. Clubs provide healthy USDA approved snacks to all Club members per week.
